About Me
I'm excited to be on my journey towards becoming a full-stack developer while balancing my passion for learning and cultural immersion in Japan!
Hello! My name is Kent Farabaugh, and I'm currently a computer science student at Western Governors University (WGU), where I’m working towards my Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. I'm expected to graduate in March 2025, and I'm excited about the opportunities this degree will bring me.
Tech I'm Learning
I’ve recently been learning Next.js, and I actually used it, along with MDX, to build this page. This has been an exciting step in my journey to becoming a full-stack developer. I’m also diving into Prisma, a database toolkit, as part of my ongoing exploration of backend development.
Projects
One of the things that excites me most is problem-solving and learning new technologies. I have experience working with Node.js, TypeScript, and React to build web apps.
One of my favorite projects is LangGo—a flashcard generation app that uses the OpenAI API to create Japanese vocabulary flashcards from uploaded PDFs. You can learn more about this on my projects page.
Passion for Japanese Language and Culture
In addition to my technical journey, I am passionate about Japanese language and culture. I'm conversationally fluent in Japanese, and soon I’ll be moving to Japan to attend a language school to further immerse myself in the language and culture.
Moving to Japan is a significant step for me. I'm excited to embrace the challenges that come with learning a new language and building my career in tech at the same time!
Returning to University
After a break, I’ve decided to return to WGU to finish my degree, and I’m looking forward to entering the workforce as a backend or full-stack developer. My background in Java, Python, SQL, and web technologies like Node.js, TypeScript, and React has prepared me well for this next chapter.
I'm 50% of the way through my degree and can't wait to graduate!
Future Plans
I’m excited to begin this next chapter of my life, balancing my studies with my plan to move to Japan. My passion for learning difficult things is what drives me, and I'm looking forward to the challenges ahead, both in my career and in my journey to mastering the Japanese language.
I also plan to pursue a Master's in Computer Science in the future.
